Cambridge University Women's Boat Club (CUWBC)

Dorney Reach - 1230hrs

Strong winds at Dorney Lake caused officials to close the course during the morning, so CUWBC made do with a series of warm-up outings on the adjacent River Thames. Conditions later in the day were just as bad, so the planned side-by-side race trials had to be abandoned and substituted by a Head race back on the river.

The three crews racing were ranked, and affectionately named ‘Blood’, ‘Sweat’ and ‘Tears’ - 'Blood' and 'Sweat' included the openweight athletes and 'Tears' contained the potential lightweights, so it was perhaps no surprise when 'Sweat' recorded the fastest time over the course, followed by 'Blood' in second place and 'Tears' less than a second back in third.

The day finished with the traditional Triallists' Dinner, held this year at the University Arms Hotel, Cambridge.
