FRIDAY 16 DECEMBER

Cambridge University Lightweight Rowing Club (CULRC)

Henley Reach - 1115hrs

Cambridge are currently running a squad of twenty athletes - the same as Oxford - and chose to boat them in two eights and a four. While the spare four went off five minutes ahead, rowing a time trial, the two eights, dubbed 'Drunk' and 'Disorderly' were well matched off the start, with 'Drunk' at 36 taking a 1/3 length lead ahead of 'Disorderly' at 33 approaching the Regatta Enclosure. 'Drunk', on the Berkshire station, were warned for their steering passing Remenham Club, and still had 1/2 length lead at Upper Thames, but 'Disorderly' now made their move and came back strongly approaching Fawley, where they led by a canvas. 'Drunk' were never left behind, and regained the lead at the Barrier, taking a much straighter course toward the Finish. But their opposition found new strength, pushed hard, and it wasn't until the final stroke that 'Disorderly' were given the verdict by just six inches.
